About Us

RemoteWork.Community is a community of practice for African and Caribbean professionals building remote work careers with clients in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland. People who have already done this teach other people who are trying.

It's founded by Peter L. Thompson from Barbados. Peter has been working over the internet since 1993. In 2020 he instigated the Barbados Welcome Stamp, the first remote work visa anywhere; about fifty countries have since copied it.

The Masterclass is the 20-week course at the centre of it. Fully asynchronous, lifetime access, on your own schedule.

The hard part of remote work isn't the technology. It's learning to be hired, paid, and trusted from far away. That's what the community is for.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions people actually ask before they join.

What is the Remote Work Community?

It's a community of practice for African and Caribbean professionals who want to earn from the global economy without leaving home. It started as Remote Work Barbados, helping foreign "digital nomads" relocate here, but soon the obvious question hit: why should only foreigners earn global-city pay from a beach in Barbados? So we flipped it. Today it's tools, courses, and events, all pointed at one thing: getting local talent from Africa and the Caribbean paid like Europe and North America. The Remote Work Masterclass is the heart of it.

What exactly is the Remote Work Masterclass?

A 20-week online program for skilled African and Caribbean professionals who want remote work that pays US$40,000 a year or more, working for companies in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland. Whether you want a full-time job, contract work, freelance clients, or your own little service business, there's a path through it for you.

Is it live, or do I go at my own pace?

Your own pace. No cohort schedule, nobody making you show up at 6 a.m. for a Zoom across five time zones. Lessons open one week at a time so twenty weeks doesn't land on your head at once, but you watch when it suits you, on the web or the phone, anywhere you've got signal.

How much is it?

US$297, paid once, and you keep access for life. Except right now until November 30th you can get a 67% discount and pay only US$98! All updates are included. One price, no upsells, no tiers to figure out. Most people earn that back several times over on their first contract.

How much time will it take each week?

Six to nine hours. That's enough to get through the lessons and do the work that actually gets you hired: sharpening how you position yourself, sending applications, setting up your banking and payments. You won't need to quit your current job to fit it in.

Do I need to be a tech person?

No, but you need a skill someone will pay for: accounting, design, marketing, writing, development, project management, work like that. And really good English language skills. If you're good at your job and underpaid for it, you're exactly who I built this for. If you've got no skills to sell yet, you're a bit early.

Will this work from where I live?

Yes. That's the whole reason it exists. It's built for Lagos and Nairobi and Bridgetown, not Silicon Valley. You'll get paid through the rails that actually work where you are, like Wise or Flutterwave, sort out your ITIN, and learn to present yourself so a hiring manager in Toronto doesn't blink at where you're based.

How do I avoid getting scammed?

Assume that a "recruiter" on Telegram or WhatsApp instead of LinkedIn is a scammer. Same if they ask you to install software, share an inbox, or "verify" a bank account before you've signed anything. Real US, Canadian, UK and Irish employers talk about paperwork: a W-8BEN, an EOR contract, ask for your ITIN. The paperwork shows up before the money does. No paperwork, no job. We teach you what the paperwork should look like, so the absence is easy to spot.
